Ethereum Signals: How to Trade ETHUSD
What moves ETH, how to size an Ethereum signal, why the ETH/BTC ratio matters, and where to place the trade.
Ethereum signals are the second most traded crypto signals after Bitcoin, and Ether behaves like a more volatile relative of Bitcoin. It usually moves in the same direction, often by more, and occasionally breaks away on its own news: network upgrades, fund flows and activity on the chain itself.
This guide covers what an Ethereum signal looks like, how to size one, what moves ETHUSD, why the ETH/BTC ratio is worth a glance before every trade, and whether spot or futures suits the signal. For Bitcoin itself see Bitcoin signals.
Ethereum signals give an entry, stop loss and targets on ETHUSD or ETHUSDT. Ether usually moves more than Bitcoin in percentage terms, so stops of 3 to 6 percent are common. Size by dividing your dollar risk by the stop distance in dollars, check the Bitcoin chart first, and watch the ETH/BTC ratio for whether Ether is leading or lagging.
What an Ethereum signal looks like
| Field | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Instrument | ETHUSDT | Ether priced in Tether |
| Direction | Buy | Spot or futures |
| Entry | 3 200 | Illustrative price |
| Stop loss | 3 070 | 130 dollars, about 4.1 percent |
| Take profit 1 | 3 330 | 1R |
| Take profit 2 | 3 460 | 2R |
| Take profit 3 | 3 590 | 3R |
The layout is the standard one explained on the crypto signals page. If the signal gives an entry zone rather than a single price, how to read a crypto signal shows how to handle it.
How to size an Ethereum signal
ETH to trade = dollars at risk ÷ stop distance in dollars
| Risk | Stop distance | Position in ETH | Position value at 3 200 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 dollars | 130 | 0.19 | about 615 dollars |
| 50 dollars | 130 | 0.38 | about 1 230 dollars |
| 100 dollars | 130 | 0.77 | about 2 460 dollars |
| 100 dollars | 200 | 0.50 | about 1 600 dollars |
On a CFD account, check the contract size first. Many brokers set one Ether lot at one coin, some use ten. Round the lot size down, never up. The lot size calculator does the arithmetic.

What moves Ethereum
| Driver | How it shows up |
|---|---|
| Bitcoin | The largest single influence. Ether usually follows, often with a bigger move |
| US rates and risk appetite | Ether tends to react to the same macro news as Bitcoin and tech shares |
| US spot Ether ETFs | Trading since July 2024. Daily flows are watched like Bitcoin ETF flows |
| Network upgrades | Major upgrades, such as the move to proof of stake in 2022, draw attention before and after |
| Staking and supply | Ether issuance and the amount staked change the supply picture over time |
| On chain activity | Demand for block space from applications, tokens and layer 2 networks |
For signal trading, the first row matters most on any given day. The others shape the bigger trend.
The ETH/BTC ratio
ETH/BTC is the price of one Ether in Bitcoin. It tells you whether Ether is doing better or worse than Bitcoin, independent of the dollar.
| ETH/BTC | ETHUSD | Reading |
|---|---|---|
| Rising | Rising | Ether leading. Buy signals have a tailwind |
| Falling | Rising | Ether rising only because Bitcoin is. Weaker setup |
| Rising | Falling | Ether falling less than Bitcoin. Relative strength |
| Falling | Falling | Ether weakest of the two. Sell signals have a tailwind |
The ratio also feeds into the wider question of whether altcoins are outperforming, covered in Bitcoin dominance and altcoin season.
Spot or futures for Ether
| Spot ETH | ETH perpetual futures | |
|---|---|---|
| Sell signals | No | Yes |
| Holding cost | None | Funding, usually every 8 hours |
| Liquidation | None | Yes, keep leverage low |
| Staking | Possible if you move the coin | Not applicable |
With a 4 percent stop, leverage much above 10x puts liquidation uncomfortably close. The full comparison is in spot vs futures crypto signals.
When Ether moves on its own
Most days Ether follows Bitcoin. A few kinds of event can break that link for hours or days, and they are worth knowing because they change how a signal behaves.
| Event | Typical effect | What to do with open signals |
|---|---|---|
| A major network upgrade date | Volatility before and after, sometimes a sell the news move | Expect wider swings. Keep stops on the exchange |
| Large ETF inflows or outflows | Ether moves more than Bitcoin that day | Watch ETH/BTC for confirmation |
| Heavy activity on the network | Rising fees and more Ether burned | Usually a slow background effect, not a trade trigger |
| Problems at a large Ether based application | Sharp, sudden drops | Size so the stop can fill with slippage |
None of these replace the signal’s own levels. They explain why an Ether trade can reach its stop or target faster than a Bitcoin trade issued at the same time.
Common mistakes on Ether signals
- Ignoring the Bitcoin chart before a buy
- Using a Bitcoin sized stop on a coin that moves more
- Mixing up ETHUSD at one broker with ETHUSDT on an exchange
- Assuming one CFD lot is one Ether without checking
- Holding leveraged futures through weeks of positive funding

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Ethereum signals?
Trade instructions for Ether with a direction, entry, stop loss and targets, usually on ETHUSDT at an exchange or ETHUSD at a broker.
How do I size an Ethereum signal?
Divide the dollars you are willing to lose by the stop distance in dollars. Fifty dollars on a 130 dollar stop is about 0.38 ETH.
Does Ethereum move with Bitcoin?
Most of the time, yes, and often by a larger percentage. It can break away on its own news, but checking the Bitcoin chart first is a sensible habit.
What is the ETH/BTC ratio?
The price of one Ether in Bitcoin. Rising means Ether is outperforming Bitcoin, falling means it is lagging.
How wide should an Ethereum stop loss be?
Where the chart says the trade is wrong, often 3 to 6 percent. Wider stops mean smaller positions for the same dollar risk.
Is Ethereum more volatile than Bitcoin?
Usually, yes. Ether tends to have larger percentage moves in both directions, which is why stops and position sizes differ.
Can I trade Ethereum signals without leverage?
Yes, on spot. You can take buy signals and hold for as long as you like, with no liquidation or funding.
